Israel and Iran have not been good friends when it comes to international relations, but the accusation of Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali is really mindboggling.

The head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization has triggered international ridicule after he held a press conference to accuse Israel of constantly stealing clouds from the airspace of Iran, preventing rain from falling in the Islamic republic.

Israel and Iran have not been good friends when it comes to international relations, but the accusation of Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali is really mindboggling.

Speaking to news men on Monday, the army general is quoted as saying: “The changing climate in Iran is suspect. Foreign interference is suspected to have played a role in climate change.”

He specifically said: “Israel and another country in the region have joint teams which work to ensure clouds entering Iranian skies are unable to release rain. On top of that, we are facing the issue of cloud and snow theft.”

General Gholam Reza Jalali’s claim happens to be the second time an official of Iran has accused other countries of stealing their clouds and diverting their rains.

Ira kerchiefAFP reported that former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad equally accused European countries seven years ago of having devised a special equipment with which they drive away rain bearing- clouds from Iran to their jurisdictions.

However, the latest claim has been rubbished by Iran’s own meteorological service. Head of the department, Ahad Vazife said the army general “probably has documents of which I am not aware, but on the basis of meteorological knowledge, it is not possible for a country to steal snow or clouds.”

Ahad Vazife explained: “Iran has suffered a prolonged drought, and this is a global trend that does not apply only to Iran. Raising such questions not only does not solve any of our problems, but will deter us from finding the right solutions.”

Hopefully, this education by the Iran’s own meteorological service will bring some enlightenment to Iranians including the army general.
