The finance minister, Ken Ofori Attah has shown concern about the sunking free Senior High programme.
He suggested that, free SHS must not be made available to all Ghanaians but those who can’t afford it.
Increased in enrollment has pose a major threat to the future of the free SHS. Speaking in an Interview with citi tv, the finance minister said, the policy must be targeted to the poor, people who can not afford it. The rich should not enjoy the free SHS programme.
He stated: “I can’t take my child to Achimota or Odorgonno and then leave him or her and drive away and Ken Ofori-Atta not pay anything while I can pay for 10 people. … You need to get the data to then be discriminatory in how and who pays and who doesn’t pay,”
He said people who have the means to afford for their children’s second cycle education must be made to pay.
